Your Career in Ultrasonography

  • Surgery
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Abdomen
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Echocardiography
  • Vascular Technology

  • Ultrasonography is a challenging, multi-faceted field for people who are interested in solving diagnostic puzzles. The technology is growing rapidly, and new advances such as the latest three-dimensional imaging opens even more opportunities to those interested in this profession. Ultrasonographers have extensive, direct patient contact and must be able to interact compassionately and effectively with patients who range from healthy to critically ill. At Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. (SSFHS), our focus on compassionate care, our commitment to the ongoing ministry of healing, and our Franciscan values, all make ultrasonography a special and rewarding career.

SSFHS ultrasound departments provide a friendly atmosphere of teamwork. The ultrasonographer's role at our hospitals includes performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining diagnostic images, analyzing technical information, using judgement to recognize the need to extend the scope of the procedure based on the diagnostic findings and providing a summary of these findings to the physician for medical diagnosis. Because ultrasonographers are key members of the healthcare team, they will collaborate with physicians and other team members.

SSFHS offers a wider spectrum of ultrasound specialties than those available at many hospitals. These include ultrasound in surgery, ultrasound, guided biopsies (interventional radiology), and other ultrasound procedures such as ultrasound of the abdomen, small parts, obstetrics and gynecology and vascular studies.

If your personal philosophy fits with our view of health care and you would like further information on how you, as a professional Ultrasonographer, can become part of the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services team, please contact us.
