Saint Anthony Memorial is a full-service, not-for-profit hospital centrally located in the geographic heart of Michigan City, Indiana, a progressive lakeside community at the southern tip of Lake Michigan. Since opening in 1903, we have been the community leader in health care, serving a primary market of 45,000, including Michigan City and Beverly Shores, Indiana, and a secondary market of 140,000, including La Porte County and the Chesterton area in Indiana and southwest Berrien County in Michigan. Living our mission as a "servant leader" motivates us to deliver to our surrounding communities "health care the way it should be."

OUR STRENGTH RENEWED IN HEALTH CARE

Saint Anthony Hospital and Health Centers of Michigan City and Memorial Hospital of Michigan City integrated in 1997 to become St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers. This strong new healthcare institution for northwestern Indiana and southwestern Michigan reaped all the benefits inherent in the merging of resources.

  • Duplication of services within the community was drastically reduced, saving millions of dollars, which has been reinvested in health care.
  • A major redesign of outpatient facilities was accomplished
  • The hospital expanded our concept of Centers of Excellence with a Wound Care Center, Diabetes Center, Endocrinology Services and Pain Management Center.

DYNAMIC EXPANSION AND RENOVATION

This current project is as important to the health care of our community as any time in our organization's history. St. Anthony Memorial is significantly improving its clinical capabilities through a $38-million, three-year construction program.

This unprecedented investment in patient care and community health includes a new tower of private patient rooms, an expanded emergency department, a new parking garage and a dramatic refurbishing of the entire hospital, inside and out.

A new cardiac catherization lab, a powerful linear accelerator addition to the Michiana Cancer Treatment Center, and the construction of a convenient and comprehensive Center for Breast Health are only the begging of renovation of the original facility. A new main entrance and lobby will feature Admitting and Express Testing, with the most frequently-used diagnostic services such as lab and some cardiology and radiology services right "up front" to speed patients through the express outpatient process.

OUTREACH FROM A FRIENDLY COMMUNITY RESOURCE Frequent publications and media messages keep the community aware of outreach programs, educational events and health screenings offered at St. Anthony Memorial, our Chesterton Center, behavioral medicine in Valparaiso, and other sites throughout our service area.
